What is Invisalign®?
One of our younger patients once summed it up well: “These are the secret agents under the braces.” The Invisalign® splints differ significantly from conventional metal brackets. Firstly because they are made of metal-free plastic and secondly because they are removable.
Invisalign® can be used for a variety of orthodontic problems, such as when your teeth are crowded, rotated, or nested.
Using advanced technologies such as 3D scanning, modeling and printing, Invisalign® aligners are precisely tailored to your individual tooth structure.
Each aligner is precisely tailored to the predicted movements of your teeth. You will receive a new set of Invisalign® every 1-2 weeks. This way, pressure is continuously applied to your teeth. This enables gentle but effective tooth correction in 0.15-0.25 mm increments.
The number of invisible aligners you receive, as well as the duration of Invisalign® treatment, depend on the severity of your misaligned teeth. It can take between 4 and 18 months to achieve your desired results. We can give you a precise assessment in a non-binding consultation.

Digital 3D scan instead of dental impression
In the conventional impression process, you bite on a plastic tray filled with malleable material to capture the tooth structure. This procedure may be uncomfortable for some people. In contrast, a digital 3D scan is carried out for Invisalign® preparation. This involves gently moving an intraoral scanner over your teeth. This innovative method makes the entire Invisalign® treatment preparation process not only more pleasant, but also more efficient.
More pleasant – more comfortable
The metal brackets and tension wires of fixed braces can irritate the mouth and cause discomfort. Invisible braces are often a pleasant alternative because of their smooth plastic surface. However, you need to know that each aligner applies gentle pressure to your teeth to move them into the desired position. You will therefore feel a pulling sensation in the first few days after changing the set. However, most Invisalign® wearers get used to it quickly.
Flexible – removable
Invisalign® aligners can be an ideal solution for professionals who often have to attend business lunches or client meetings, as they can be discreetly removed. Many schoolchildren and students also enjoy their lunch break more carefree because they don’t have to worry about leftover food that might get stuck in wires. However, it is important to note that the teeth must be cleaned after eating before the invisible braces are reinserted. For the treatment to be successful, the transparent aligners may only be removed for a maximum of 2 hours per day.
Cleaning a breeze
Cleaning your Invisalign® aligners is really straightforward. With a few simple steps you can ensure your invisible braces stay clean and hygienic. A little toothpaste and a toothbrush are enough to clean them thoroughly. If you’re out and about and don’t have a toothbrush to hand, a little soap and cold water will do the trick. However, avoid denture cleaners and mouthwashes as they can damage and discolor the aligners. For stubborn discoloration, Invisalign® cleaning crystals are a great option.
Compatibility – Transparent
The transparent, metal-free material of the rails ensures that they are virtually invisible. Each Invisalign® tray is custom-made for you to fit your teeth and gum line perfectly. However, the aesthetic advantages do not reduce the safety and tolerability of invisible braces. The materials have been thoroughly tested for compatibility and do not contain any harmful substances such as BPA or phthalates. Even pregnant women can wear them without hesitation. Invisalign® also meets the highest medical standards and is FDA approved. They are also suitable for allergy sufferers as they do not contain latex.

So that we can create your individual treatment plan, 3D scans, x-rays and photos are taken. Using modern computer simulations, we can show you before the actual treatment begins how the position of your teeth can change as a result of Invisalign® treatment and what your smile might look like after the therapy is completed. This simulation also allows us to calculate the number and sequence of aligners for the required tooth movements. Once this planning has been completed, all of the required Invisalign® aligners will be custom-made for you.
Insert Invisalign® Lifedent
As soon as all preliminary examinations have been completed in one of our Lifedent practices in Lucerne, Volketswil, Bülach, Winterthur or Neukirch and the first sets of Invisalign® aligners have arrived, the attachments will be attached to your teeth. These act as anchoring points and maximize the desired tooth movements. After the attachments have been placed, the first aligner set is inserted. We also give you further tips on handling and cleaning.
You will receive the next sets straight home with you. You can then replace and use these yourself at 2-week intervals. After about 4-6 weeks we will see you for the first check-up appointment, which will not last longer than 15-30 minutes.
Aftercare Invisalign® Lifedent
After your Invisalign® treatment is complete, we usually recommend a retainer. This thin metal wire is attached to the insides of your teeth to ensure they hold their new position. Alternatively, in some cases a fixed splint can be used that only needs to be worn at night.

How does the Invisalign® treatment work in our Lifedent practices in Lucerne, Volketswil, Bülach, Winterthur or Neukirch?
The length of your Invisalign® treatment depends on how severely misaligned your teeth are and how quickly your teeth move. If you only have slight misalignments in your front teeth, treatment usually takes around 3 to 5 months. For moderate misalignments, it may take approximately 7 to 10 months for your teeth to be corrected. More complex misalignments may require up to 18 months to achieve the desired position.
It is important to emphasize that each case is individual, so the exact duration of treatment will be discussed personally with you at the Lifedent practice you visit. During treatment, your progress will be carefully monitored to ensure everything is going as planned.

In addition, the metal brackets and wires can irritate the oral cavity. Invisalign® are made of smooth material and are therefore often perceived as more comfortable. Invisalign® aligners can be removed before eating, unlike fixed braces. Cleaning and caring for Invisalign® and your own teeth is often perceived as easier.
Each new set puts a certain amount of pressure on your teeth to move them into the new position. Therefore, you may feel a slight tugging sensation when inserting a new set for the first few days. However, our patients do not classify the feeling as joking.
Crowns typically have no impact on the possibility of Invisalign® treatment. However, because bridges connect multiple teeth together, they can pose a problem. To find out whether Invisalign® treatment is possible for you despite a bridge, we recommend that you come to one of our Lifedent practices.
Yes, after Invisalign® treatment it is usually recommended to wear retainers. Retainers are fine wires that are attached to the inside of the teeth to hold the new position and prevent them from moving back. Alternatively, there are also removable dental aligners that, like Invisalign® aligners, have to be worn at night. We’ll be happy to help you figure out which of the two options is best for you.
