Snoring splint
Snoring splint – for quieter and more restful nights!
Almost 1/3 of the Swiss population does it every night: snoring!
While it can cause the affected person to have a dry mouth, hoarseness or a sore throat, in most cases it has a huge impact on the partner’s quality of sleep (and life).
We can offer you a solution: The snoring splint or protrusion splint.

How does a snoring device help reduce your snoring?
The snoring splint is made from plastic after a 3D scan of your jaw. Its job is to put your jaw under slight tension while you are sleeping and to push it forward.
This prevents muscles and soft tissue from sagging backwards. This keeps the throat and airway clear and reduces your snoring – in the best case scenario, you stop snoring altogether. There are one- and two-part models.
We would be happy to discuss which one is suitable for you in a personal consultation.

Advantages of a snoring splint from LifeDent
Airways remain clear
The Lifedent snoring splint prevents muscles from sinking into the throat. This means that the airways remain clear and your snoring is reduced. The oxygen supply is also improved. This could be of particular interest to people with sleep apnea, as the splint can also help prevent breathing pauses.

When is the right time for a snoring splint?
The time for a snoring splint is individual. It depends on how much you or your partner suffer from the noise of snoring at night. In the long term, light snoring has no health effects, but lack of sleep does.
Sleep quality is quality of life – make your appointment today!
We will help you find the right snoring splint and improve your sleep quality.
Your jaw joint should be mobile and your upper and lower teeth should be healthy. Your lower jaw should also be able to move forward a little without any problem.
The snoring or protrusion splint is inserted before falling asleep. Similar to removable braces. It puts the lower jaw under slight tension and pushes it forward a little. This opens the throat area. This allows you to sleep more relaxed without snoring and without breathing pauses.
The snoring splint is for people who want to reduce their snoring noises and ideally stop them completely.
Most patients need about 1-4 weeks to get used to the snoring splint. During this time, minor discomfort may occur. For example, jaw tension, an unusual feeling in the mouth, dry mouth or increased salivation, sometimes even gum irritation. However, these sensations are individual and can be perceived differently.
The health insurance company will cover the costs of the snoring splint if you meet a few requirements. A specialist must confirm that the snoring splint is medically necessary. To do this, you need a prescription for the splint and a referral to a dentist’s office that makes the splint.
Basically, the snoring splint is worn when you sleep, which means mainly at night.
The snoring splint can also help against sleep apnea. However, the effectiveness depends on the severity of the sleep apnea.
A 3D scan is made to ensure that the snoring splint fits your jaw exactly. The digital impression then serves as a template for the splint. If the condition is at its worst, other treatments should be initiated.
The best way to clean the snoring splint is with a mild cleaning agent and a soft toothbrush inside and out. This cleaning should be done daily. Cleaning tablets can also be used. We will be happy to recommend some to you.
Depending on how long it is worn and how well it is cared for, a protrusion splint can last between 3 and 5 years. We still recommend regular check-ups in our LifeDent practices to make adjustments if necessary.
The success rate is around 80%. Unfortunately, it is not suitable if several teeth are missing or if a removable denture is worn.
